After viewing Eric Whitacre's latest production, involving over 8000 singers, the penny dropped for me. The larger the number of singers, the more difficult it is to adequately feature all singers (impossible with over 8000!) http://ericwhitacre.com/the-virtual-choir. To me, his original video remains my favorite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7o7BrlbaDs. It is much more intimate and gives decent 'air time' to each singer.
For ELMvc from here on - small is beautiful.
- All singers gain substantial reward/exposure for their efforts and are uplifted by the experience.
- The audience reached is no smaller and their viewing experience is all the more intimate and inspiring.
- Audio-visual processing labour and cost is kept at a manageable level (Eric's last video had a budget of US$122K).
