Background:
Roger and I, together with our neighbour Colin and his friend Barry (both of whom play in a Shadows tribute band), learnt this wonderful song with the aim of singing it at the Lions' Australia Day breakfast. That all went pear shape however because Lionel, who ran an open mic, was not able to play at this years gig. The 'professional duo' engaged to do the gig banned us from singing. All dressed up and nowhere to go!
Having learnt this very uplifting and inspiring song, we felt it was a perfect fit for the ELM Program. So I fired off a speculative email to Eric with a view to seeking his support and collaboration. Eric replied with very kind words about the worth of our ELM Program and indicated a preparedness to allow us to arrange some of his music.
With this encouragement, I quickly compiled a draft SATB arrangement of Shelter and was later assisted by Kripin Maesalu. Eric's has since complemented us on the arrangement and granted ELM permission to perform the song at the 2014 Mandurah Proms.
