Why participate?

In his inspirational song, Eric paints a vivid picture of the vast, wild and free place we call home and sensitively expresses his hopes and expectations for an inclusive, tolerant and compassionate Nation.

With stories of bigotry, intolerance and persecution flooding the world’s newsrooms. It’s timely for all those who find shelter in this great southern land to reinforce more harmonious values and aspirations.

Eric Bogle’s wonderful song does just that!

It prompts each, and everyone of us who live in this fortunate place, to review his or her own aspirations for our island shelter.

How do you participate?

Singers and instrumentalists may submit a video recording to the project team that reflects their 'by ear' interpretation of the song.

Improvise your way around the song’s harmony line in whatever genre that works for you, whilst being faithful to the master track’s key register and tempo framework. Others may follow an Elm arrangement of the song 'by sight'.

The product of your collective interpretation of the song will be screened via a dynamic multi-track audiovisual art installation, called MyCut, that will be exhibited at appropriate festivals, commencing with the Mandurah Stretch Festival during late April - early May 2016.  To see a PowerPoint simulation of MyCut dialogue:
